“Twitter” most popular word in 2009?

SFGate’s “The Tech Chronicles” points out in this November 30 post from Penny Evangelista that “Twitter” was the most popular English language word of 2009, beating out “stimulus” and “vampire”.
Really??
What’s YOUR vote for most popular English word of 2009? Or is it too early to tell? We still have 1/12th of the year ahead of us, don’t we?

I wonder if actual Twitter posts are included in the frequency count. If so, it may favor Twitter against other social networking sites like Facebook (in which posts are not public). I guess I’d like to see their methodology, particularly how they define and quantify “context.” I think of Twitter more as a communication platform, an architecture for the distribution of information. No doubt Twitter is a popular medium, but that doesn’t necessarily make it a popular word. I’m sure we can have a whole discussion on the so-called distinction between medium/message, structure/content, and image/sound! Toss in some Barthesian nesting for kicks.
