daveski – David Malinowski
I’m a student in the Graduate School of Education at Berkeley. I’ve studied Spanish, Japanese, and Korean, and taught English for a while before returning to grad school. I’m interested in media, technology, theories of space and place…and conducting informal observations of linguistic culture at Berkeley cafes.

Youki Terada
I’m in the LLSC program at the UC Berkeley GSE. Like most people who study language(s), even the most mundane, banal events can result in linguistic curiosity, which makes it difficult to preemptively state what our interests are (without falling into some sort of tautological trap — “yes, I’m interested in stuff that is interesting”). Officially, though, my interests include language socialization, sociocultural theory, narrative theory, and media and technology. I’m also interested in internet culture and online gaming culture.

I’m a first year student who plans on majoring in English and minoring in French. I joined this site after being introduced to it in my French 24 seminar. I studied Mandarin for about 6 years before coming to Berkeley. I know a small amount of Vietnamese and Cantonese, as my parents know both fluently. I’m currently enrolled in French 3 here at Berkeley. I hope to study abroad either in Spring of next year or sometime during junior year.

I’m a first year intended-Haas major. While not ethnically Chinese, I’ve spoken some variant of Chinese for most of my life, but have only recently seen any serious improvement. I’m currently in Chinese 10AX, Intermediate Chinese for Heritage Speakers and in awe of Berkeley’s language program.
